Exercise helps to tone muscles, increase blood flow but it also has an influence on mood. In one study it was found that doing Hatha yoga decreased anxiety, depression and confusion; swimming reduced tension and confusion.
It has been found that exercising actually results in a change of brain neuro-transmitters with increased levels of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, leading to an enhanced mood .
